In the US, bloggers (at least the better newsy ones) and the press are turning into mirror-images of each other. The key difference, as Slate's editor-at-large notes, is this:
"Because bloggers answer to no one, they need not worry if their dispatches cause the chairman of the board of General Motors to stop talking to the publisher—or placing ads. Their independence gives them a subversive strength, one that undermines the cozy relationship the press has with its corporate cousins and government. The unmediated nature of blogs, which frightens so many professional journalists, is really a plus. With so many bloggers writing outside the bounds of authority, they've become impossible to silence or censor, and their provocations help keep the national debate going at full tilt."
Here in Singabloodypore, Browntown comes to mind, as a leading and justly popular beacon on facets of society not deemed worthy of nation-building attention. From a Singapore Angle offers a regular review of local and regional news that often pricks one's social conscience (the site takes a while to load though). The Singapore Commentator performs a similar service, while SG chronicle is more of a blogfeed for those disinclined to visit the official newssites. Singapore Ink has a heavily political slant, while other sites could be described as deeply personalised responses to specific issues. The virtual gadfly of Kent Ridge and Wannabe Lawyers should not be forgotten either, while promising debutantes come in the form of an Economista and a Poet in waiting. Across the straits, Jeff Ooi leads the charge, and I really need to water my crypts now, so here's a final blog politic with its own annotated roll of resources for your reading horror pleasure. Good night!

Unfortunately, under current Singapore legislation, the government still holds the trump cards as to whether they feel like cracking down on Singaporean bloggers. In principle, at least.

Where's my comparative advantage in blogging, I wonder :0

AcidFlask, in Malaysia, as Jeff Ooi recounts, bloggers have already received friendly visits.... Aga, I would suggest your comparative advantage lies in the ability to mine the unconscious ounces of disgust and indignation that most people don't know they harbour. You are like a suppository... usually unpleasant and unwanted, but good for unclogging tightly held rectums.

Clearly, Fishpoachers has issues.
Anyway, just one question (because I can't remember despite being reminded time and again): Is Agagooga male or female?
