Hear ye for messy and unsearchable chaos! I find that many editors and journalists have the habit of leaving a cluttered desk at their work. Somehow, I find that writing in a sterile, clean and neat environment produces different results from one which has some messiness.

Incidentally children and kids love messes because it is where they can learn the most.

One needs an organized mess. If you can't find a paper when you need it, you are not going to have much efficiency or serendipity. Also, a disorganized desk may be a sign of a disorganized mind.
