The cats of the eastern shores were out and about last Saturday before the boardwalk. At the village on Ubin, one bike shop is home to a couple of pussies who usually lurk by the narrow doorway with its raised floorplank. Only one was visible though, snoozing amidst the passing crowd of day-trippers and durian hunters.
A colony of kittehs hangs out by Pak Ali's lontong stall at the land's end of the jetty. At low tide, they happily forage by the water's edge or navigate the exposed rocks for savoury pickings of stranded seafood. Two new members have joined the crusty crew, thanks to a white-socked tabby and her anonymous mate. While the adults doze or engage in boxing exercises, the kittens bounce about under the pots and around the buckets, peering from the safety of parked bicycles with fear and curiosity.
Over at Changi Village, where smashed chicken vie with nasi lemak for the top honours of eastern flavours, plenty of pussies hang out by the market and hawker centre, begging boldly for scraps and chin rubs. One fella at a sundry store had its fill of such a life and decided it couldn't face the world any longer. A more cheerful tux by the bus stop fussed for a nub before it headed off towards the convenience store to receive a kick from an inconvenienced staff member.
And finally, possibly thanks to the undue influence of rude lil' coastal bunnies, a frisky kitteh reveals her finicky side, coughing up viscous portions of kibble with scattered bits of gecko so fresh it hadn't had time to digest its final meal of a mosquito. Unfortunately, it's a little late to put the lizard back together again, even if useful parts like the liver, legs, tail and intact eyeballs are still evident after a brief chew. Poor RIPtile...

I wonder if the mosquito was something the kitty had eaten. We once had a cat who could catch flies passing by her face with a lightning-fast snap of her mouth.
