The boundless seas are already achoke with litter and lifeless things. So what harm could a little demolition do to a shore that has survived a century of onslaught? One torpid afternoon this week, my duck caught sight of a crew at work on an old pier just west of Pasir Panjang Ferry Terminal. Among other tasks, an excavator-mounted hydraulic drill pounded the edge of the structure, sending a torrent of broken concrete into the water below. What an excellent way to ditch an old dock and reclaim a new space for growth that will not suffer the grouses of neighbourhoods who don't know better!
