This dragonfly has an unusually short and thick abdomen.
A small pool of water on a leaf provides a Stammtisch for thirsty ants. They must be the nest's slackers. This katydid was found camouflaged on the thorny stem of a rattan palm. Pond skaters doing their thing. A robber fly at rest. Apart from the large compound eyes (which are hard to focus on), the body structure looks similar to that of a mosquito. By the stream, a long convoy of termites were moving house. The workers in the centre of the living column were carrying bits and pieces from their old nest (starter cultures, larvae, old porn mags...) while pointy headed soldiers with built-in chemical squirt guns stood guard at the fringers, ready to shoot any hostile ducks. I don't really like termites; they once ate a book of mine....
