Ode to a sotong ball

A ball of squid
swam pass my duck
in a sea of sedimented fluid

Unlike its kin
which in food courts teem
this blob has better luck

For this fowl deems
cephalopods dim
and ink a dish most foul

Still, this babe thought Wot!
I'd better hide my spot
And seek best to blend
with the shade of bright sand

Chromatophores pulse
but fail to repulse
my curious ducky peek
for though we'd hate each other's feet
'Tis true we share a beak!
