... are the only giveaway to these little palaemonid shrimp that occur in great numbers in the lagoon at Sister's Island. Plucking out food from the sand or brawling to no great effect with their slim chelae, the shrimp are not too unconcerned with hulking figures that light up their little world with flashes of uninspired brilliance. For the real threats arise from smaller dangers: toadfish, flatheads, scorpionfish, frogfish, octopi and other welders of strong jaws that would emerge from the grains or a goodly hole to crush the lives out of these light-footed bodies. Perhaps in hope of safer ground, many individuals have a penchant for hitchhiking on benign giants, or maybe they simply like a change in the flooring. This fellow clearly likes his rug gold-studded and supple. If only he didn't have to share his bed with fish of freeriding tendencies...
